Scholarship Support

At The Nurses Legacy Institute, we believe the most meaningful leadership development happens when the room reflects the richness and complexity of today's healthcare landscape. That's why we're committed to making this experience accessible to those who might not otherwise have the opportunity to attend. To help remove financial barriers, we offer two forms of scholarship support.

You may apply for one scholarship, not both.

CNO Institute Access Scholarships
Available at several levels and awarded on a rolling basis, so early submissions are encouraged. You are eligible to apply if you meet one or more of the following:
- Currently serve in a nurse leadership role, or are on the pathway to becoming a Chief Nursing Officer.
- Work in a rural hospital, community health setting, or for an organization with limited financial capacity to support professional development.
- Bring a background or perspective that is not often well represented in traditional leadership development settings.
If you apply, attach a letter from your organization indicating the financial support it is able to provide.

The Joyce Batcheller CNO Institute Scholarships
For Pennsylvania nurse leaders, offered with the Pennsylvania Organization of Nurse Leaders (PONL). One scholarship per CNO Institute session, covering the full program fee, a $4,000 value. Where your organization is not able to cover travel and lodging, additional support may be available, and requesting it does not affect your selection.

To be eligible, you must:
- Be a current member in good standing of the Pennsylvania Organization of Nurse Leaders at the time you apply
- Hold current nursing leadership responsibilities, or show clear leadership potential
- Attach a letter explaining why you should be considered
These have fixed deadlines, unlike our rolling scholarships: December 1 and June 1 each year. For the March 2027 CNO Institute, applications close December 1, 2026. Recipients are notified December 15.

Applicants not selected will be automatically considered for CNO Institute Access Scholarship support, subject to availability.

If you are applying for the Joyce Batcheller CNO Institute Scholarship for Pennsylvania nurse leaders, please attach a letter making your case. Include your PONL membership number, and tell us about your current leadership role or the potential you see in yourself, how the CNO Institute will support your growth, and the difference you expect it to make for your organization, team, or community. One page is plenty.

Applications are reviewed by The Nurses Legacy Institute, informed by recommendations from the Pennsylvania Organization of Nurse Leaders. Selection considers your commitment to nursing leadership, your leadership potential and career goals, the impact you expect the CNO Institute to have on your organization and team, and alignment with the values that shape this scholarship: innovation, mentorship, collaboration, and excellence. Hospital type, organizational need, and newness in role are also taken into account.

Recipients provide a testimonial about their experience, share what they learn with the PONL community, and help raise awareness of the scholarship among colleagues.
